These Deluxe Black Tonfas are constructed from select hardwood and have a black lacquered finish. They are made in a traditional Okinawan design, but these tonfas have red and white stripes that draw a little extra attention during katas. Sold in pairs.
History:
Although the origin of the tonfa is debated, it is believed that this weapon had its beginnings as a farming implement to manually operate the millstone when grinding rice. During the reign of the ruler Sho Shin, restrictions were placed on the use of weaponry and the peasants began using agricultural tools as a form of self-defense. Now, widely used to perform katas, tonfas can be used to, block, parry, thrust, or can spun circularly to strike.
